What is Credit Card ( Plastic Card ) and Benefit?

A credit card refers to a system of payment and is named so after the plastic card that is issued to the user of this system. The user is given a line of credit by the issuing agency and this allows him/her to borrow money for payment for purchases.

A credit card gives the users the flexibility to revolve their balance, which means that they need not clear their balance at the end of every month, unlike a charge card. They can carry forward the balance. However there is a certain percentage of interest that is charged to it when the balance is not paid within the due date.

Credit cards are issued by banks or credit unions after the credit provider has approved the account. This can then be used by card holders for payments for purchases made. After making payments the card user promises to pay the provider the amount by signing on the receipt that would contain the details of the card. With the help of the electronic verification system, the merchants can verify the authenticity of the card and also know if the customer has enough balance to cover the purchase, within a few minutes.

Every month the card holder is sent a statement that contains the details of the purchases made against the card and the balance accrued. The card holder next pays the entire amount within the specified due date or makes a higher payment at a later date. A card holder is given a grace period which is the time by which the balance should be paid to avoid any finance charges.

A credit card is beneficial for the merchants as well. It is much more secure than any other form of payment as the issuing agency is committed to make payments as soon as the transaction gets authorized, irrespective of whether the customer makes the payment on the card later on. Cards are also more secure than cash as these prevent thefts by the employees of the concern.

Due to the ever increasing popularity of credit cards there is increasing competition in the sector. Thus credit card companies now offer several benefits to the customers such as gift certificates, frequent flyer points, or cash back options. There are also low interest cards and even 0% interest cards that are available.

Credit cards when used properly provide you with a host of benefits. There are a plethora of credit cards that are available in the market. When you are comparing credit cards in the market it is important to know what type of card are you looking for and what would work best for you. It is recommended that you do extensive research before you zero down on any particular type of credit card that would take care of your requirements.

Credit cards also present countless opportunities for fraud. It is therefore imperative that you be very careful while using the card and report the theft or loss of same immediately to the issuing agency.
