A debt settlement or relief program is another option for consumers. A debt settlement service will negotiate with your creditors or collection agencies to absolve part of your balance that is owed. The amount that is due is reduced and the consumer can pay for it in a lump sum payment. In Texas with a debt settlement program, a consumer can clear their dues within a period of 2-4 years.
